La azurita, también llamada chesilita o malaquita azul, es un mineral de cobre del grupo de los carbonatos que se forma en los depósitos de cobre expuestos a la intemperie. Posee un color azul muy característico. Frecuentemente se encuentra asociada con otros minerales de cobre, normalmente con malaquita, de color verde, y alguna vez con cuprita, de color rojo oscuro.
El oropimente es un mineral del grupo II (sulfuros) según la clasificación de Strunz. Es un trisulfuro de arsénico (As2S3), es un mineral monoclínico compuesto por arsénico y azufre. De coloración anaranjada amarillenta, se encuentra en todo el mundo, y se forma por sublimación en las fumarolas volcánicas, en fuentes hidrotermales templadas, por cambios bruscos de temperatura y como subproducto de la descomposición de otros minerales arsenicales.
La estibina, también llamada antimonita o estibinita, es un mineral del grupo II (sulfuros), según la clasificación de Strunz. Es la mena principal del antimonio, metal relativamente raro (0,2 por millón en la corteza terrestre). Existen cristales radiales alargados de estibina, o formas macizas.
El oligisto, hematita, hematites o acerina es un mineral compuesto de óxido férrico, cuya fórmula es Fe2O3 y constituye una importante mena de hierro ya que en estado puro contiene un 65 % de este metal. A veces posee trazas de titanio (Ti), aluminio (Al), manganeso (Mn) y agua (H2O). Es el polimorfo α de Fe3O4, la magnetita.
El jaspe es una roca sedimentaria. Posee una superficie suave y se utiliza para ornamentación o como gema. Se puede pulir y utilizar en floreros, sellos y, tiempo atrás se la utilizó para cajas de tabaco. Los colores son rojos o violáceos, grises a negros, a veces verdes, amarillos, pardos, en ocasiones combinados. La "jaspilita" es variedad de jaspe veteado con niveles ferruginosos y manganesíferos muy distintivos.
Está compuesto de sílice, pertenece al grupo de los óxidos y es cristalizado por las altas presiones y temperaturas geológicas en sistemas rómbicos. Es uno de los más comunes en la corteza terrestre y es también uno de los minerales que más beneficios te aporta. Se le puede conocer por cuarzo hialino o cristal de roca también. Una de sus características más reseñables es su pureza y su dureza. Ésta es de grado 7 en la escala de Mohs de tal manera que es capaz de rayar a los aceros más comunes.
La malaquita es un mineral del grupo V (carbonatos) según la clasificación de Strunz. Posee un 57,0% de cobre. Su nombre viene del griego malaqh, que significa ‘malva’, en alusión a su color verde. En la naturaleza la encontramos en pequeños cristales, en forma masiva o formando estalactitas. Frecuentemente se encuentra como pseudomorfismo de la azurita.
La wolframita o volframita es un grupo de minerales de la clase de los minerales óxidos. Su nombre podría venir del antiguo alemán "wolf" y "ram" (espuma de lobo), en alusión a la sustancia cremosa que se forma durante la metalurgia del wolframio. Se encuentra a menudo junto con cuarzo, en pegmatitas graníticas y como depósito hidrotermal. Este mineral es duro y pesado y sus matices pueden ir del negro al pardo oscuro, con algunos destellos rojizos.
La calcantita, chalcantita, calclasa o chalclasa, es un mineral del grupo VI (sulfatos) según la clasificación de Strunz, se la conoce por ser extremadamente soluble en el agua (hecho que explica que solamente se encuentre de forma natural en zonas de clima muy seco), acumular bastante polvo y proporcionar al paladar un gusto metálico. Es levemente tóxica.
El ópalo es un mineraloide del grupo IX (silicatos, tectosilicatos), según la clasificación de Strunz. Tiene una composición similar a la del cuarzo del que se diferencia porque tiene moléculas de agua en su interior. Su fórmula es SiO2nH2O. Con mucha frecuencia se encuentran rellenando cavidades de riolitas o rocas sedimentarias. Existen numerosas variedades de ópalo que tienen apariencias diferentes.
La rodocrosita es un mineral poco abundante del grupo V (carbonatos), según la clasificación de Strunz. Es un carbonato de manganeso (II) (MnCO3). En su forma pura, tiene un característico color rosa rojizo, si bien es poco frecuente encontrarlo así. En función de las impurezas, la tonalidad de este mineral puede variar desde el rosa hasta el marrón claro. Se forma en depósitos de manganeso alterados y en filones hidrotermales.
El aragonito o aragonita es una de las formas cristalinas del carbonato de calcio (CaCO3). Puede encontrarse en forma de estalactitas, y también en la concha de casi todos los moluscos y en el esqueleto de los corales. Entre las variedades del aragonito destaca la llamada flos-ferri (flor de hierro), que se asemeja a un coral.
