La madera de peral es una madera de calidad, muy popular en Europa y que se usa principalmente en interiores.
Si bien es originaria del centro y este de Europa es habitual encontrar hoy en día plantaciones en zonas templadas de cualquier lugar del mundo.
Su nombre científico es Pyrus communis.
En términos generales es una madera fácil de trabajar, tanto con herramientas mecánicas como manuales.
Se trata de un árbol de entre 8 y 20 m con copa piramidal y floración en primavera. Los frutos maduran a finales de verano. Su madera es apreciada para grabado, escultura y ebanistería de lujo. Antes se utilizaba para hacer reglas y escuadras.
El PALDAO es una especie de Filipinas,y también es conocida como DAO y es un árbol de hasta 30 metros o más de altura, con tronco de color claro, recto, sobre los contrafuertes o castillares. Presenta vetas claras con irisaciones brillantes muy acusadas.
Tiene textura media, grano semi.basto, fibra entrelazada o a veces ondulada. Contiene estriaciones vasculares acusadas con fondo oscuro, porosidad no muy abundante.
Durante el secado tienen una contracción moderada con tendencia a alabearse y torcerse. Se clasifica como madera algo dura, notable por su tenacidad y curvado, pero tiene una duración limitada en condiciones que favorezcan la pudrición; no es silicea ni resinosa y no presenta dificultades especiales para su trabajo, aunque puede ser preciso tener cuidado cuando se trabajan superficies cuarteadas si hay fibras entrelazadas.

APLICACIONES
El laminado es adecuado para usarse en mobiliario de alta calidad, residencial y bajo diseño, en mobiliario fijo y estantería y también para aplicación arquitectónica en columnas, entablerados, cenefas, cornisas, puertas interiores y sistemas de división.
Los laminados son solamente para uso en interiores y no se recomienda su aplicación directa sobre paredes de concreto o recubiertas de yeso, o sobre paneles de yeso. Esto no es un material estructural y debe ser adherido a un material de soporte adecuado.
