DESCRIPCIÓN
El albura del nogal es blanco cremoso, mientras que el color del duramen va de café claro a café chocolate oscuro, ocasionalmente con un sombreado purpúreo y nudos más oscuros.
La Quinilla colorada es una madera muy pesada, que presenta contracciones lineales bajas y la contracción volumétrica es moderadamente estable. Para la resistencia mecánica se sitúa en el límite de la categoría alta.
La madera requiere de mayor esfuerzo para ser trabajada debido a la alta resistencia mecánica y dureza, presenta muy buena trabajabilidad en el cepillado, taladrado, torneado y moldurado.
Originaria del norte de México, más específicamente de Baja California Norte. Actualmente el uso principal que se le da es para generar y mantener fuego, pero se están haciendo una serie de estudios para encontrar nuevos usos y propiedades para este material.
