El ácido poliláctico es un es un polímero biodegradable derivado del ácido láctico. Se fabrica a partir de recursos renovables al 100%, como son el maíz, la remolacha, el trigo y otros productos ricos en almidón. Este termoplástico tiene muchas características equivalentes, e incluso mejores, que muchos de los plásticos derivados del petróleo, lo que hace que sea eficaz para una gran variedad de usos.
