La obsidiana, llamada a veces vidrio volcánico, es un tipo de roca ígnea , roca volcánica perteneciente al grupo de los silicatos, con una composición química de silicatos alumínicos y un gran porcentaje (70 % o mayor) de óxidos sílicos. Su color es negro, aunque puede variar según la composición de las impurezas del verde muy oscuro al claro, al rojizo y estar veteada en blanco, negro y rojo.
El lapislázuli es una piedra semipreciosa, una roca compuesta por los minerales lazurita, silicato cálcico complejo que le proporciona el color azul característico, wollastonita y calcita, que producen el veteado gris y blanquecino, y pirita, que produce los reflejos dorados.
La turmalina es una roca de la clase VIII (silicatos), según la clasificación de Strunz, grupo de los ciclosilicatos. Puede presentar prácticamente todos los colores, desde incoloro (acroíta) hasta negro (chorlo), pasando por el marrón o amarillo (Dravita), rojo, azul, rosa y verde; prevaleciendo los verdes oscuros y tonalidades rosas en las variedades gemas (elbaítas).
